Larimer Square is one of the oldest parts of Denver, with a colorful past to match: It was a spectacle of mining boom wealth in the 1800s, a speakeasy hot spot in the Prohibition Era and “skid row” by the time a developer revitalized it in the 1970s.

A prominent Southern real estate investor is betting almost $93 million on the future of retail with the purchase of an expanse of restaurants and shops known as Larimer Square, Denver’s first historic district and a tangible link to the city’s founding days in the Gold Rush.
